As part of our commitment to an inclusive RE and PSHE curriculum, children in P7 visited Basel’s Buddhist Centre in November. They learned at firsthand about the origin and customs of the Buddhist religion, which worldwide has over 500 million followers. The children had prepared insightful and interesting questions on a range of Buddhist beliefs including meditation, enlightenment and even the role of prayer flags!
Taking learning beyond the classroom is central to our teaching and learning at ELA Basel. In recent weeks, children in different age groups have also enjoyed parent presentations on Diwali, Hanukkah and the Orthodox Christmas. In learning about different customs and faith traditions in this way, it is our belief that the children will grow up as accepting and tolerant future citizens of the world.
