Pastoral Care
In the Primary School all children are part of a House which provides opportunities for learning, social and emotional development in vertical age groups.
Instead of simply remaining in their class or year group with children their own age, our children also have the chance to contribute and lead in a range of activities from healthy competitive sports and quiz events to charity fund-raising. Most staff are also members of a House and House Captains are elected each semester. House points are awarded for effort or extraordinary achievement and points are tallied up in each classroom and totals are announced in the weekly assemblies.
The recent House Rounders Competition in September 2020 was a great example of the children enjoying activities in their Houses.
The House system originated in British schools a long time before Harry Potter! The benefits and memories made are testament to this unique system of pastoral care. Each child is proud to be a member of and represent their House in events like the annual Swimming Gala and Basler Stadtlauf Run.
An excellent example of how the house system encourages a sense of healthy competition is the outstanding result of our 2020 Virtual Basler Stadtlauf (City Run). Over CHF5000 was raised for the 4 house charities, a record amount!
